WomenWomen in Reinsurance (WiRe) has announced the appointment of four new board members, including Natasha Scotland Courcy, CEO and General Counsel at Athene Bermuda, who has also been named WiRe Woman of the Year. This strategic initiative underscores WiRe’s ongoing commitment to advancing women in the reinsurance industry.

The organization's recent board changes are designed to align with its updated vision, purpose, and values statement. The Royal Gazette highlighted these changes as a demonstration of WiRe’s dedication to fostering professional development, networking, and diversity among its members.

Joining the existing board members Carmen DeSilva of QBE Bermuda, Susan Smith of Ark Insurance Ltd, Julia Mather of Falcon Insurance PCC Ltd, and Maamoun Rajeh of Arch Worldwide Reinsurance Group are Kyra Hodsoll, Assistant Manager of Operations at Ariel Re; Sylvia Taylor, Reinsurance Accountant at Martello Re; and Marlín Ramlal, Senior Underwriter at MS Re. These new directors previously served on WiRe’s events committee and now bring their expertise to the board.

Peta White, Chair of WiRe and President of Vantage Risk, welcomed the new appointments, emphasizing the invaluable passion and strategic direction the new board members bring. “This expansion reflects our commitment to inclusivity and excellence, ensuring that WiRe continues to be a vibrant and supportive community,” White stated.

Carmen DeSilva, WiRe Director and VP – Specialty Underwriter at QBE Bermuda, noted the transformation of the events committee into the executive committee. This change recognizes the extensive work the team performs across WiRe’s four pillars: networking and mentoring, education and development, media and communications, and treasury and sponsorship. “Each board member will be responsible for overseeing these pillars and ensuring that our vision, purpose, and values are the driving force behind all decisions”, DeSilva explained.

Established in 2008, WiRe is dedicated to supporting the development and advancement of women in the reinsurance industry. Its membership includes women from a variety of firms and regulatory bodies, all united in their commitment to professional growth within Bermuda’s reinsurance sector.

The addition of these new board members marks a significant step forward for WiRe. By strengthening its leadership team, WiRe aims to continue providing a robust platform for women in the reinsurance industry to grow, connect, and succeed.
