UEM Sunrise CEO Sufian Abdullah Announces Resignation
UEM Sunrise Bhd has announced the resignation of its CEO, Sufian Abdullah, effective February 28, 2025. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the board of directors confirmed that Sufian submitted his resignation to explore other opportunities.
Sufian, who has led UEM Sunrise since his appointment on February 2, 2021, will serve his three-month notice period before stepping down.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have led UEM Sunrise through a transformative chapter and would like to sincerely thank the board of directors for their trust, as well as the incredible people of UEM Sunrise for their dedication.
“Together, we achieved remarkable milestones, and I am confident the Company will continue to grow, thrive, and achieve even greater success in the years ahead”, Sufian said in a statement.
UEM Sunrise Chairman, Datuk Hisham Hamdan, expressed the board’s gratitude for Sufian’s contributions, emphasizing the positive changes he brought to the company.
“Under Sufian’s leadership, UEM Sunrise saw a strong recovery, expanded in Australia, launched developments aligned with our strategic goals, and recalibrated to meet our buyer preferences. His customer-centric and sustainable approach has driven our improved performance. We wish him the best in his future endeavours”, said Hisham.
To ensure a smooth transition, the board has appointed CFO Hafizuddin Sulaiman as the “officer in charge” (OIC) to oversee the company’s operations during the interim period.
An oversight committee, consisting of Board members Christina Foo, Datuk Sr. Azmar Talib, and Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin, will support the OIC in overseeing the transition. UEM has stated that the search for a new CEO is already in progress, and an announcement will be made once a successor is appointed.
