ST Telemedia GDC Unveils AI-Ready Data Centres in Southeast Asia

Separator

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its data center infrastructure throughout Southeast Asia (SEA). Presently, STT GDC has a presence in the Southeast Asian markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

The enhanced data centers boast a capacity exceeding 500 megawatts (MW) and are tailored to accommodate both AI clusters and general-purpose computing tasks. Currently, AI clusters are up and running in Singapore and Thailand, and there are plans to have additional clusters operational in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia within the next two years.

The objective of these AI clusters is to offer "versatile and economical accessibility" to hyperscale accelerated computing clusters fueled by cutting-edge graphics processing unit (GPU) technologies, catering to enterprises, government entities, and cloud service providers. As per the data center provider, they are well-suited for rapidly deploying AI model training and inference workloads across diverse industries.

The STT GDC data centres in the region are made to accommodate the latest GPU chips such as NVIDIA’s Blackwell products with thermal design power, resulting in higher density powered racks ranging from 10 to 150 kilowatts (KW) per rack. Other design features cited include advanced cooling solutions that support liquid immersion cooling and direct-to-chip cooling technologies as a result of trials conducted in 2022 with chassis-level precision immersion, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, and collaboration with industry players on cooling technologies.

STT GDC is furthering its support for GPU workloads by collaborating with NVIDIA cloud service providers at its Thailand campus and is actively discussing AI needs with other partners across its SEA data center campuses. Lionel Yeo, CEO of Southeast Asia at STT GDC, credited the surge in AI innovation to "accelerated computing" and reiterated the provider's commitment to leading the charge in assisting businesses in the region and beyond as they transition "from the digital age to the intelligent era."

“We are committed to meeting the needs of our customers where they are, and starting with SEA, we will continue to bring to bear our expertise in delivering the agile digital infrastructure needed to support accelerated computing workloads such as AI and beyond while ensuring our data centres are built to meet the highest sustainability standards, aligning with STT GDC’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030,” he added.

Due to the rising demand for AI infrastructure and services, prompting increased investments in data centers, STT GDC has recently expanded its operations in Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia to enhance its range of customer offerings.
