SMBC Names Katsufumi Uchida as New Co-Head for APAC
Katsufumi Uchida has been named the new Managing Executive Officer and Co-Head of the Asia Pacific division at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). Based in Singapore, Uchida officially began his new position on April 1, taking over from Yuichi Nishimura. Nishimura will now work alongside Rajeev Kannan. Uchida, in collaboration with Kannan, will jointly lead the division and manage the bank's activities throughout the region.
Uchida became part of The Sumitomo Bank in 1990, which later merged to form SMBC. His recent roles included serving as the head of the Asia Business Development division and as the deputy head of the Asia Pacific division within Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, where he held the position of managing executive officer. With a career spanning over three decades, Uchida has accumulated extensive experience within the bank's global network, operating in pivotal hubs across Asia and Europe. His expertise primarily revolves around structured finance and driving expansion in emerging markets.
“It is an honour to take on my new role with SMBC’s Asia Pacific Division, which continues to be a driver of growth for the bank. I am delighted to work closely with the team to enhance our capability to drive transformation and growth as well as creating social value in this diverse and vibrant region”, says Uchida.
“SMBC Group continues to grow its presence in the Asia-Pacific region through organic growth complemented with strategic acquisitions. Given Mr Uchida’s previous role overseeing the acquisitions, I look forward to working closely with him to further enhance our overall platform in the region”, adds Kannan.
