OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, announced the members of its newly established nonprofit commission, which will direct the business's charitable endeavors.

In order to manage its expanding business and remove the limitations placed on it by its current nonprofit parent, Microsoft-backed OpenAI announced in December that it would restructure its organizational structure by establishing a public benefit company.

Daniel Zingale, who has held high leadership positions throughout California, was selected as the commission's convener by OpenAI, which said last month that it will raise up to $40 billion in a fresh investment round, valuing the business at $300 billion.

"The advisors will receive learnings and input from the community on how OpenAI's philanthropy can address long-term systemic issues, while also considering both the promise and risks of AI," OpenAI said.

The new commission, which was established earlier this month, has Dolores Huerta, Monica Lozano, Robert Ross, and Jack Oliver as advisors. All of these individuals have previous experience working with community-based organizations.

By gaining knowledge from individuals and institutions working in the fields of public services, science, health, and education, they will counsel OpenAI's board on how to guide community involvement initiatives.

Within ninety days, the commission is expected to provide its findings to the board.

Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015, filed a lawsuit against the AI business and Sam Altman, its CEO, last year. Musk charged that OpenAI has abandoned its initial goal of creating AI for the good of humanity in favor of corporate profits.

Last week, a dozen former OpenAI workers submitted a legal brief in support of Musk's claim.

In a legal fight over the future structure of the company that helped spark the AI revolution, OpenAI filed a countersuit against Musk last week, claiming that he had harassed the company on multiple occasions and requesting that a federal judge prevent Musk from taking any "further unlawful and unfair action" against OpenAI.
