During his meeting with Mayor Gong Zheng, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that Shanghai is a key location for the company's research and development.

Huang's visit coincides with the ongoing tariff war between Washington and Beijing, in which Nvidia, one of the major US tech companies, is suffering the most.

A week ago, Huang sat down to eat with US President Donald Trump.

Huang arrived in Beijing on Thursday at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, a state-backed organization that represents Chinese exporters, according to reports.

According to reports, Huang met with the council's chairman, Ren Hongbin, and conveyed his desire that Nvidia could maintain its cooperation with China, citing the country as a "key market."

After revealing the H20 limits, Nvidia's stock dropped 6.9 percent in the US on Wednesday.

In response to previous US export restrictions, the H20 graphics processing unit (GPU) was designed specifically for the Chinese market.

The H20 ban, according to analysts, would be a blow to Chinese Big Tech firms that mostly depend on chips for the creation and training of their large language models (LLMs), which are the brains behind ChatGPT-like services.

According to statistics from research firm Omdia, the Financial Times reported in December that Tencent Holdings and ByteDance each ordered over 230,000 of Nvidia's Hopper-series chips last year, trailing only Microsoft, which purchased 485,000 chips.

Major Chinese IT companies have refrained from making public remarks regarding how the H20 ban will affect their AI operations. Shanghai-based Huaqin Technology, a Chinese partner of Nvidia, was the only company to release a statement, claiming that business was "proceeding as normal" despite a nearly 10 percent drop in its stock price on Wednesday.
