NSTC-led Taiwan Quantum Team Meets Finland Counterparts
The Quantum Taiwan team, headed by Lin Minn-tsong, Deputy Minister of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), recently hosted a delegation from Finland in Taipei City to discuss bilateral technology cooperation plans. The Finnish delegation, organized by Business Finland, a government organization focusing on innovation funding and investment, comprised academics, experts, and business representatives in quantum technology.
The discussions centred around various aspects of quantum technology, including quantum computer development, ultra-low temperature cooling systems, and industrial-grade quantum software. The goal of Business Finland's visit was to foster exchanges with the Taiwanese government and research institutions, aiming to bolster collaboration and advance quantum technology industries together.
Lin Minn-tsong highlighted the Quantum Taiwan team's efforts in both general and optical quantum technology, emphasizing their focus on software development and integrating cross-disciplinary research and development. The NSTC noted Finland's significant role in the global quantum sector, with plans to develop 50-qubit computers by the end of 2024.
This visit builds upon Lin's trip to Finland the previous June, which led to reciprocal visits by Finnish academics and business representatives to Taiwan for the Quantum Taiwan 2023 symposium in December. Additionally, the NSTC has been invited to participate in the Inside Quantum Technology Nordics conference and exhibition scheduled for June 2024 in Helsinki.
In summary, the meeting between the Quantum Taiwan team and the Finnish delegation underscored the commitment to enhancing collaboration in quantum technology between the two countries. Through ongoing exchanges and participation in international conferences, both parties aim to advance research, development, and industrial applications in the field of quantum technology.
