Mondelez Launches Regional Snacks Lab and Innovation Kitchen in Singapore

MondMondelez International, Inc. has inaugurated its regional biscuit and baked snacks lab and innovation kitchen in Singapore. This facility is set to serve as a strategic Centre of Excellence and a pivotal regional hub for driving creative advancements and innovations in the biscuits and baked snacks sector.

The new lab, which represents an investment exceeding $5 million, expands upon the capabilities of Mondelēz’s existing Singapore Technical Centre. Initially established in 2006 and further expanded in 2018 to focus on gum and candy innovation, the centre will now include a dedicated space for biscuit and baked snack innovations.

"At Mondelēz International, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of food innovation and product development. Through collaborative efforts, we aim to create a dynamic space where creative ideas can flourish and contribute to the development of new innovative products for our consumers”, said Deepak Iyer, executive vice president and president AMEA at Mondelēz International. He added that this expansion enhances the capabilities of their Singapore Technical Centre and reaffirms the company’s commitment to the country, which serves as the headquarters for their Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa business.

The lab aims to accelerate Mondelēz’s mission for mindful snacking by developing products that balance portion size and encourage mindful indulgence while exploring flavor innovation and diverse product formats. Additionally, the expansion seeks to enhance existing technical capabilities and upskill talent to drive deeper innovation and operational efficiency.

Chan Ih-Ming, executive vice president of the Singapore Economic Development Board, highlighted the strategic significance of the new facility. “The expansion will capitalise on opportunities presented by the rising Asian middle class and a growing appetite for premium and responsible snacking experiences”, he said. “Singapore, which is at the heart of Southeast Asia and boasts a vibrant food ecosystem, presents an ideal location for such endeavours”.

Mondelēz's investment in the new lab underscores its commitment to innovation and its strategic focus on the dynamic and rapidly growing markets of Asia, further solidifying Singapore’s status as a key innovation hub in the region.
