Meta, Boeing and GE Vernova join US delegation on Vietnam visit

Separator

This week, a strong delegation of US businesses, including notable companies such as Meta, Boeing, and wind energy firm GE Vernova, will be visiting Vietnam. This underscores continued corporate interest in the Southeast Asian nation following the recent enhancement of relations by Washington.

Arranged by the US-ASEAN Business Council, the delegation encompasses roughly 50 companies, reflecting the magnitude of a comparable business venture to Vietnam orchestrated by the council last year. In addition to Meta, Boeing, and GE Vernova, the delegation includes conglomerate Koch Industries, safety standards firm UL Solutions, insurance group Chubb, gaming company Roblox, weather forecasts provider ATMO, and energy firm AES.

Several of these corporations already maintain a substantial presence and active activities in Vietnam. For example, Meta's Facebook platform has garnered more than 60 million users in the country, establishing it as one of its most extensive markets globally. Likewise, Boeing finalized a preliminary agreement with national carrier Vietnam Airlines in the previous year for the potential purchase of 50 of its 737 aircraft.

The visit follows US President Joe Biden's efforts to strengthen ties with Vietnam and his focus on promoting cooperation in the semiconductor sector. Nonetheless, organizers highlighted the lack of semiconductor companies among the members of this week's delegation. Set to take place from Tuesday to Thursday, the business mission is planned to involve discussions with local authorities. Preceding this, today, a smaller delegation consisting of security firms is ready to explore potential business opportunities in meetings with representatives from Vietnam's ministries of defense and police, as outlined by the organizers.
