Malina Ngai appointed as AS Watson's new CEO
AS Watson Group, a renowned international health and beauty retailer, has recently appointed Malina Ngai as its Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a move aimed at bolstering the company's global expansion efforts. Ngai, who currently holds the positions of Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) for AS Watson and CEO for AS Watson's operations in Asia and Europe, will now spearhead the organization's strategic direction, prioritize customer-centric initiatives, and oversee the continued expansion of AS Watson's global footprint.
With an extensive background in the industry, Ngai's journey began in 2000 when she joined CK Hutchison, AS Watson's parent company, formerly known as Hutchison Whampoa. Initially stationed at Hutchison Port Holdings, she later transitioned to the Corporate Affairs Department of Hutchison Whampoa before joining AS Watson in 2001. Over the years, Ngai has held various leadership roles within AS Watson, culminating in her appointment as Group COO in 2013 and CEO of AS Watson Asia and Europe in 2019.
Ngai's professional trajectory is underscored by her academic achievements, holding a doctoral degree, a master's degree in business administration, a master's degree in finance, and a bachelor's degree in sports administration. Notably, she also boasts a successful sporting career, clinching a bronze medal for Hong Kong at the 1994 Asian Games.
Effective May 1, 2024, Ngai will assume her new role as Group CEO, while Dominic Lai, currently serving as Group Co-Managing Director at CK Hutchison and Group Managing Director at AS Watson, will transition to the position of Chairman for AS Watson.
Expressing confidence in Ngai's capabilities, Lai highlighted her pivotal role in driving AS Watson's digital transformation, implementing the O+O (offline plus online) business model, and fostering a culture of innovation within the organization. He emphasized Ngai's adaptability, strategic acumen, and remarkable contributions over her 24-year tenure with CK Hutchison and AS Watson, positioning her as the ideal candidate for the Group CEO role.
