Jaishankar Discusses Strategic Progress with Japanese PM Kishida
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar concluded his visit to Japan from March 6-8 by meeting Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. During the visit, he co-chaired the 16th India-Japan Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue with Japanese counterpart Yoko Kamikawa and participated in the first Raisina Roundtable. Jaishankar conveyed warm greetings from PM Modi, briefed Kishida on the progress in the dialogue, and sought guidance for further strengthening the Global and Special Strategic Partnership.
S Jaishankar also met Yoshihide Suga, the former Prime Minister of Japan and current Chairman of the Japan-India Association. He expressed pleasure in meeting Suga, acknowledging his impactful leadership in advancing India-Japan ties and the Quad. Jaishankar expects continued support from Suga for these endeavors. Suga served as Prime Minister and LDP President from 2020 to 2021.
During his visit, Jaishankar met Toshimitsu Motegi, the Secretary-General of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), discussing ways to enhance ties in an uncertain world. Jaishankar appreciated Motegi's friendship and support for the partnership, describing their conversation as fruitful.
Speaking at the Nikkei Forum on the India-Japan partnership, Jaishankar highlighted the convergence of India and Japan on major issues. He emphasized the improved coordination and identified more avenues for cooperation. Jaishankar stressed the strength drawn from larger activities, especially in the Quad, as the relationship evolves amid global changes in the Indo-Pacific region.
