Govt Names Sat Pal Bhanoo As Managing Director of LIC
The managing director of the insurance giant has been named as Sat Pal Bhanoo, Additional Zonal Manager (in-charge) of the Life Insurance Corporation of India's zonal office in Bhopal.
With effect from the date of taking over responsibility for the position and lasting until the date of his superannuation on December 31, 2025, or until further instructions, whichever comes first, Mr. Bhanoo has been named as Managing Director in place of Siddhartha Mohanty, who is now acting as chairperson. According to a stock exchange statement by LIC, Mr. Bhanoo's appointment follows a notification by the Government of India.
After meeting with seven candidates, the Financial Services Institutions Bureau recommended Mr. Bhanoo for the position of MD on June 6. This position became available on April 29 when Mr. Mohanty assumed leadership of LIC. The government replaced Suchindra Misra as the government director on the LIC board with MP Tangirala, Additional Secretary, Department of Financial Services, last month.
On NSE, the company's shares ended the day unchanged at Rs 620.20. The stock has underperformed the market this year, declining around 13% so far. Indian multinational public sector life insurance firm Life Insurance Corporation of India is based in Mumbai. LIC has locations abroad. With $45.7 trillion in total assets under administration as of March 2023, it is both the largest institutional investor and the largest insurance firm in India.
