According to reports, Foxconn is planning to host a seminar in Japan on April 9th to present its electric vehicle strategy, as it seeks to engage more Japanese automotive manufacturers following a partnership with Mitsubishi Motors.

The Taiwanese contract manufacturer, known for producing iPhones for Apple and AI servers for Nvidia, intends to enhance awareness of its EV strategy among automakers and suppliers.

Jun Seki, who was appointed as chief EV strategy officer in 2023 and is a former executive at Nissan, is anticipated to address the attendees.

This outsourcing agreement marks a significant transformation in Japan's extensive automotive sector, which is a crucial component of the economy but is facing increasing competition from agile Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD.

"This tangible order signifies recognition of Foxconn’s manufacturing capabilities in the highly experience-driven automotive industry," said Trendforce analyst Caroline Chen, in contrast to prior collaborations, joint ventures, or purchases.

"Additionally, Mitsubishi Motors' brand reputation will further enhance the visibility of this partnership."

The seminar in April follows reports from two additional sources indicating that Foxconn has finalized a contract to produce electric vehicles for Mitsubishi to be distributed in Oceania markets, including Australia.

This agreement represents a significant achievement in Foxconn's five-year venture into electric vehicle production, which has experienced mixed results after previous agreements with companies such as China’s Geely and Lordstown Motors fell through.
