Former OpenAI Co-Founder Ilya Sutskever Launches Safe Superintelligence Inc
Ilya Sutskever, Co-Founder of OpenAI, has introduced a new artificial intelligence company, Safe Superintelligence Inc (SSI), following his departure from the ChatGPT creator just a month ago. This move comes after Sutskever and Jan Leike, co-leader of OpenAI’s 'Superalignment' team, left the company in May due to internal disagreements.
Leike has since joined rival AI firm Anthropic, which has secured investments from tech giants Google and Amazon.
Announcing the launch on X (formerly Twitter), Sutskever emphasized SSI’s commitment to advancing AI capabilities rapidly while ensuring safety remains a top priority. “SSI is our mission, our name, and our entire product roadmap, because it is our sole focus,” Sutskever stated. He underscored that SSI's business model is designed to prioritize safety, security, and progress, free from the constraints of short-term commercial pressures.
“We plan to advance capabilities as fast as possible while making sure our safety always remains ahead. This way, we can scale in peace,” Sutskever wrote. He highlighted that the company will not be bogged down by traditional management or product development cycles.
SSI is currently assembling a team of top-tier engineers and researchers dedicated solely to the mission of safe superintelligence. “If that’s you, we offer an opportunity to do your life’s work and help solve the most important technical challenge of our age,” the company announced.
Sutskever's new venture reflects his ongoing commitment to navigating the complex landscape of AI development with an unwavering focus on safety, setting the stage for significant advancements in the field.
