D.V. Chanaka Appointed New National Organiser of SLPP, Replacing Namal Rajapaksa
D.V. Chanaka, the Member of Parliament for Hambantota District from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has been appointed as the party's new National Organiser, succeeding MP Namal Rajapaksa. This significant decision was made during the SLPP Executive Council meeting, which took place at the official residence of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo yesterday.
Political analysts believe that D.V. Chanaka’s appointment as the new National Organiser signals Namal Rajapaksa’s potential preparation for a more significant and influential leadership role within the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
At the same meeting, it was revealed that former MP Johnston Fernando has been entrusted with the responsibility of appointing new leaders at both grassroots and District levels, as part of the party’s organisational restructuring.
The gathering was attended by prominent SLPP members, including Chairperson Uduwala Dhammarathana Thera, General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Sanjeewa Edirimanna, and C.B. Ratnayake, among others.
