Bun & Associates Launches Korea Desk to Boost Bilateral Investments

Bun & Associates, a Cambodian law firm, has introduced a Korea desk in response to recent market changes and enhanced bilateral relations between Cambodia and South Korea, according to Asia Business Law Journal. This new Korea desk complements the firm's existing Japan desk and builds on nearly twenty years of experience with Korea-related transactions and established connections with Korean investors, law firms, and other key stakeholders, as noted by Currie Sun Min Lee, the head of the Korea desk.

“The Korea desk will specifically focus on serving not only Korean investors but also Cambodian and Cambodia-situated clients working with Korean business in multiple sectors”, said Lee, who is a Korean international lawyer licensed in New York and is fluent in Korean and English. In May of this year, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet undertook his inaugural state visit to South Korea, during which he signed 12 memoranda of understanding related to investment and finance, according to the Cambodian Journalists Alliance Association.

Bun & Associates, a full-service legal and tax firm established in 2007, leverages its Korea desk to concentrate on inbound foreign direct investment (FDI) and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) from South Korea. This includes investments in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, finance, technology, automotive, agriculture, and manufacturing. The desk also addresses outbound investments by Cambodian businesses, reflecting the growing initiatives between Cambodia and South Korea to enhance bilateral investment, according to Lee.

But Lee clarifies that her firm has no plans to open an office in South Korea. “We have a strong network of referral law firms with which we collaborate closely on both inbound and outbound matters. This network of top-tier full-service law firms provides us with the necessary support to service our clients”, said Lee.
