BNY Mellon Hires Senior Nomura Executive for Japan

BNYBNY Mellon has appointed Kunio Watanabe as Japan country executive and representative for the Bank of New York Mellon, Tokyo Branch, the company announced. Watanabe will lead BNY Mellon's Japan business and join the Asia Pacific leadership council, contributing his extensive experience in financial services.

Watanabe brings nearly 40 years of expertise in investment banking, wealth management, and asset management across Europe, Asia, and the US. Prior to joining BNY Mellon, he served as executive chairman of Nomura Holding America and previously held the role of CEO at Nomura Asset Management.

Fangfang Chen, head of APAC at BNY Mellon, emphasized the importance of the Japanese market for the company and the pivotal role Watanabe's experience will play in supporting clients with advanced technology, services, and expertise. This appointment aligns with BNY Mellon's commitment to aiding clients throughout the entire financial lifecycle.

Watanabe's leadership is expected to bolster BNY Mellon's presence in Japan, enhancing the company's capacity to meet the diverse needs of its clients in the region.
