Barnes Aerospace Expands in Singapore

BarnesBarnes Aerospace, a prominent player in the aerospace industry, has announced the establishment of a new component repair facility in Singapore. This strategic move is aimed at significantly increasing the company's component repair capacity in the Asia-Pacific region by approximately 50%. The facility, located in Singapore’s aerospace hub, JTC’s Seletar Aerospace Park, signifies a substantial investment in advancing Barnes Aerospace’s capabilities.

The expansion is part of Barnes Aerospace's technology investment program, enabling additional overhaul and repairs of complex high-value fabricated engine cases. The facility will focus on providing cutting-edge aerospace engine component repair services, including aerospace engine casing, knife edge seals, and honeycomb repairs. This initiative is in response to the growing demands of the aerospace industry, and it solidifies Barnes Aerospace’s position as a key player in engine component repair and maintenance.

Lim Ai Ting, Director for Aerospace & Marine Cluster at JTC, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating that Barnes Aerospace's move not only increases maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capacities but also reinforces Singapore’s position as the leading MRO hub in the region.

Barnes Aerospace has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to facilitate this expansion. Cindy Koh, Executive Vice President of EDB, welcomed the expansion, highlighting its role in solidifying Singapore's status as a global node for aerospace manufacturing and MRO. She emphasized the strong growth in the aerospace industry in Singapore, driven by companies expanding their operations to support the recovery in air travel.

Ian Reason, Senior Vice President of Barnes and President of Barnes Aerospace, expressed excitement about the capacity expansion, stating that it will address critical bottlenecks for their customers amid the resurgence of commercial flight demand. He emphasized Barnes Aerospace's commitment to building a robust infrastructure and a talented workforce in Singapore to support the thriving aerospace industry. This move is expected to foster collaboration among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and signify the company's long-term vision for the Asia-Pacific region.
