AppleAppleby has strengthened its Shanghai office with the addition of Ben McCosker, previously a counsel at Mayer Brown’s Hong Kong office. McCosker joins Appleby as a partner, bringing over 16 years of expertise in commercial litigation, restructuring, and insolvency.

Admitted to practice in Hong Kong, Bermuda, and New South Wales in Australia, McCosker specializes in advising on shareholder disputes and managing restructuring transactions for offshore-incorporated companies listed in Hong Kong. His extensive experience spans roles in Bermuda with Walkers and in Sydney with Norton Rose Fulbright, prior to his two-year tenure at Mayer Brown.

McCosker’s arrival enhances Appleby’s capabilities in Shanghai, where the office had previously housed five partners. Of these, Hannah Yao is the only partner based solely in Shanghai, having joined the office last August. Appleby’s expansion makes it the second offshore law firm with a permanent legal presence in mainland China, following Harneys.

In addition to McCosker, Appleby has also welcomed Mandy Qi as an associate and Stephanie Wang as a legal manager to their Shanghai team.

With these strategic hires, Appleby aims to bolster its litigation and restructuring services in the region, reflecting the firm's commitment to growing its presence in key global markets.
