The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii) has appointed Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid as its new Chairman of the Board, effective immediately.

In a statement, MARii emphasised Aminar’s significant contributions and leadership in Malaysia’s automotive and technology sectors. “Previously, he served as the managing director, president, and CEO of Perodua from 2010 to 2018. He also held key roles at UMW Toyota Motor, including as the executive director of group strategic planning”, the institute stated.

MARii CEO Azrul Reza Aziz welcomed the appointment, describing it as a strategic move to advance Malaysia’s automotive industry. “With his guidance and vast experience in the automotive sector, I am confident MARii will further solidify its strategic direction in line with the national agenda and the mandate from MITI”, he said.

Aminar expressed his commitment to MARii’s objectives, stating, “With the collective efforts of the entire MARii team, I believe the institute will continue to strengthen the nation’s automotive ecosystem through close collaboration with MITI, industry players, universities, and government agencies.”

MARii also recognized the leadership of Datuk Hairil Yahri Yaacob, MITI Secretary-General, for his contributions as interim chairman during the transition period.
