What are your thoughts on the evolving technology trends in your sector & how do they impact your organization?

At Commerz Global Service Solutions, the global support hub for Commerzbank, I embrace dynamic technology trends as integral to our ever-changing technological landscape. Rapid advancements in areas like IoT, cybersecurity, automation, and machine learning are not just trends but fundamental drivers of continuous improvement and innovation. These innovations are essential for maintaining competitiveness and resilience in today's business environment.

In our organization, we actively integrate these trends into our core operations to enhance efficiency, security, and scalability. IoT facilitates real-time data collection and analysis, optimizing our infrastructure and service delivery. Robust cybersecurity measures are crucial for protecting our assets and maintaining stakeholder trust. Automation is leveraged across networks and systems to streamline processes, reduce errors, and boost operational efficiency. Machine learning enables us to extract insights from large datasets, supporting informed decision-making and predictive analytics.

As CTO, how do you safeguard data security & privacy against external threats?

At Commerz Global Service Solutions, we implement a comprehensive approach to mitigate the risk of cyber attacks. This includes deploying robust cybersecurity systems and architectures, regularly updating patches to defend against known vulnerabilities. We enforce stringent access controls through robust authentication protocols and least privilege principles to minimize unauthorized access.

Employee education is critical, with regular training sessions to raise awareness about phishing scams, social engineering tactics, and safe internet practices. We also conduct incident response training to empower staff in identifying and promptly reporting suspicious activities.

Our network infrastructure is strengthened with encryption for data protection and segmentation to isolate critical assets. Continuous monitoring using intrusion detection systems allows us to detect anomalies proactively. An updated incident response plan ensures swift containment and mitigation of cyber attacks, while regular backups and testing ensure data resilience.

This approach allows me to tailor my leadership to different situations, promoting a culture of creativity and problem-solving. By empowering teams to drive technological advancements, we effectively achieve our organizational goals.

To stay abreast of industry trends, I regularly follow CIO news to gain insights into emerging technologies and developments. My active participation in the PIKOM group in Malaysia helps me stay connected with regional advancements and network with industry peers. Attending seminars and conferences further enhances my knowledge of cutting-edge developments. Maintaining close relationships with CIOs worldwide facilitates collaboration and knowledge exchange, ensuring our organization remains at the forefront of technological innovation.

Where do you see yourself heading in the future?

As a current CTO, my future goals include playing a key role in advancing Malaysia's technology sector. I aspire to utilize my position to spearhead innovation, promote collaboration across industries, and cultivate a thriving ecosystem that attracts international tech talent and investments. Through driving technological advancements, forging strategic partnerships, and advocating for enabling policies, my vision is to position Malaysia as a prominent global tech hub. This endeavor aims to contribute substantially to the country's economic development and enhance its technological influence on the global scale.

Given your extensive industry experience, what guidance would you offer to emerging leaders in the field?

Drawing from my tenure as a CTO, I recommend upcoming leaders prioritize staying abreast of evolving technologies. AI emerges as a pivotal catalyst for next-generation advancements, presenting transformative possibilities across sectors. It's essential to embed robust cybersecurity protocols and efficient process management alongside AI initiatives. These components foster sustainable growth, bolster operational resilience, and effectively mitigate risks. Embracing AI while maintaining a steadfast emphasis on cybersecurity and streamlined processes will pave the path to future success in roles of technological leadership.
