In an exclusive interaction with CEO Insights Asia, Paul Renon enlightens us more about her professional traits and leadership attributes.

Could you share some of the major milestones you have crossed and the lessons you learned from those experiences?

I have several significant milestones that have shaped my perspective and knowledge. One of the earliest was during my college years in France. Coming from a relatively privileged background in Indonesia, I expected a broader worldview from my peers. However, many of them had limited knowledge about Indonesia, often associating it solely with Bali and assuming we lacked modern infrastructure. This experience taught me that not everyone has a broad perspective or global awareness, and it’s essential to be patient and understanding of others’ viewpoints.

Another milestone occurred early in my career. During my initial training at my current company, I had a mentor who, despite pushing me hard, had ulterior motives. During a critical project presentation, he interrupted to suggest that the client buy some equipment locally, which ultimately backfired as they couldn't source the required quality. The key lesson here was to quickly learn from mentors but rely on my judgment and capabilities.

Finally, securing what I initially thought was an unattainable contract was a significant milestone. My persistence and determination paid off, and this success was crucial for our company's growth. This experience reinforced the importance of perseverance and knowing that with determination, you can achieve your goals.

In this dynamic landscape, resilience & a hunger for knowledge will propel you forward on the path to success

How do you find these experiences beneficial in strategically driving the growth of the company so far?

These experiences have taught me the importance of humility, respect, and self-reliance. They underscore that determination and discipline are crucial for success. Persistence is always rewarding, and respecting others fosters a positive work environment. Strategically, knowing what you want, making a clear plan, and sticking to it is essential for driving the company's growth effectively.

Tell us about your leadership approach. What are the guidelines or methodologies you follow as a leader?

My leadership approach centers on listening, analyzing, and making informed decisions. I gather all relevant information, think logically, and develop a strategy. Ultimately, one person must make the final decision and take responsibility for it. As a leader, I ensure that I make and own these decisions, demonstrating accountability. This approach shows the team that I value their input, but also that I am decisive and responsible. It’s crucial for them to see that I am committed to and stand by the decisions I make, fostering trust and respect.

How do you guide the company in attracting new market leaders to be a part of your vision and mission?

Navigating the digital shift is pivotal for our company's future. While enhancing accessibility and progress, it poses challenges, risking the loss of skilled workers and diluting the value of hard work. We must balance convenience with preserving our work's essence, attracting leaders who share our adaptive vision.

What is your anticipation about the market, going forward?

As the world becomes more interconnected, accessibility to information and markets increases. However, this ease of access necessitates caution and discernment in what and how we share. While the digital age offers unprecedented opportunities, preserving traditional values such as discipline, respect, and cultural heritage is paramount. We must ensure that amid globalization, these values remain integral to our company ethos and vision. These principles are integral to maintaining the integrity and vision of the company amidst a rapidly changing global landscape.

In light of your strong professional experience, what would be your advice to budding industry leaders?

For budding industry leaders, my advice is simple yet crucial: clarity of purpose is paramount. Know your objectives distinctly. Progress may seem incremental, but discipline and consistency are key. Never underestimate their power. However, perpetual learning is the cornerstone of growth. Stagnation occurs when learning ceases. Stay humble, and respectful, and trust your instincts. Believe in your abilities, but remain open to new perspectives. Adaptability is as vital as determination. Embrace challenges with an attitude of continual improvement. In this dynamic landscape, resilience and a hunger for knowledge will propel you forward on the path to success.
