How would you define BE Grand Resort as an organization and its current position in the market?
BE Grand Resort stands as a stunning independent 5-star oasis near Alona Beach on Bohol Island, recognized by Agoda as a top destination in the Philippines. Inaugurated in 2015, the resort harmoniously blends with its tropical surroundings, featuring 208 keys, 12 ocean view suites, and 19 private villas. While primarily leisure-focused, the addition of the Grand Convention Center in 2022 solidified its status as a leading MICE venue. Despite pandemic challenges, the resort persevered, emerging stronger. Recent accolades, including Tripadvisor's top ranking on the island and multiple wins at the World Luxury Hotel Awards, attest to its exceptional service. With creative F&B offerings across four distinct restaurants, BE Grand Resort ensures an unforgettable experience for every modern traveler.

While we refrain from labeling ourselves as solely affordable, our pricing reflects our commitment to quality and to deliver quality be it in products or services. Recognizing the subjectivity of affordability, our focus lies in offering value for money. Understanding guests individually is crucial, tailoring luxury and personalization to exceed expectations. Thorough research, facilitated by online tools, precedes and accompanies guests' stays, emphasizing attention to detail, active listening, and observation. Continuous enhancements to recreational facilities, such as the recent introduction of a water shuttle service and a multilingual Hotel application, exemplify our dedication to providing a unique experience. These innovations, alongside a collective commitment to guest satisfaction, showcase our unwavering dedication to continually enhance the overall guest experience.
Share with us your leadership approach. What principles or methodologies guide your role as a leader?
At the core of every organization are its people, and the most successful ones prioritize their well-being. My leadership philosophy revolves around putting people first, entrusting and empowering them to act in the best interests of our guests, colleagues, and owners. I consistently implement this approach by surrounding myself with individuals devoid of ego, involving them in decision-making processes, and holding them accountable for achieving set objectives. I believe in nurturing our associates, investing in their personal and professional growth, acknowledging that turnover is inherent in our industry. By developing their skills and knowledge, even if they eventually move on, I provide them with lasting value, fostering gratitude for the opportunities to advance in their careers.
How do you stay abreast of current industry trends to guide your organization towards the future?
Residing and operating on an island entails some distance from the central business hubs, especially the main market in Manila. Consequently, my primary source of information on industry developments, both in the Philippines and globally, stems from online platforms dedicated to our professional domain. Remaining well-informed about the latest trends is crucial, not only from a business perspective but also to understand the evolving needs and expectations of guests and customers. This awareness is instrumental in shaping a customized offering that aligns with the dynamic landscape of guest preferences.
What lies ahead as your future destination?
I cannot definitively say. Over the past 20 months, my focus, time, and complete dedication have been directed towards revitalizing BE Grand Resort, and I take pride in the accomplishments our team has achieved. Undoubtedly, the upcoming year holds more opportunities for us to enhance our product and service offerings, ensuring a superior experience for every guest, irrespective of nationality or demographic.
Given your extensive experience in the industry, what guidance would you offer to emerging leaders in the field?
The local hotel industry boasts remarkable and qualified leaders, making it challenging to provide specific advice. Yet, if I may express a desire, it would be for us to collectively strengthen the entire tourism sector. I believe the Philippines holds untapped potential to emerge as a prime destination for global markets, boasting friendly English speaking locals, pristine white beaches, crystal clear waters, and diverse landscapes. However, the absence of a comprehensive nationwide tourism master plan, outdated infrastructure, limited collaboration between public and private entities, and a skilled workforce opting to work abroad hinder the development of a robust Philippines brand. Just as Italy was celebrated for its 'Made in Italy' label, envisioning a globally recognized 'Made in Philippines' statement is a goal that, once achieved, will bring immense satisfaction.
