Can you provide a concise overview of your professional history and experiences? What drives you on a daily basis?

Over the span of 25 years, I've built my career in an American asset management firm, commencing during Japan's financial big bang. With roles spanning middle office, operations, and reporting at AIG Investment Management, Fidelity Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and J. P. Morgan Asset Management, I've garnered expertise in investment products and operations. Now serving as Money Design's COO, I lead various projects, pioneering new processes and products such as direct sales and performance analysis methods. Exposure to diverse products, from traditional assets to alternatives, has deepened my industry insight.

Driven by a passion for networking and embracing challenges, my career encompasses founding an asset management business with a foreign entity, navigating regulations, and overseeing business separations at Money Design. Always in pursuit of learning, I derive fulfilment from crafting customercentric services, eager to contribute further to the industry's advancement.

With more than twenty-five years of experience under your belt, could you share the journey that led to your success and the guiding principles that have shaped it?

Establishing a business structure with effective governance control involves several crucial elements, including recognizing the value of networking, maintaining diverse interests, embracing change, and acknowledging the hidden legacy within current circumstances. Additionally, mastering the art of 'Story making' to effectively communicate ideas is essential. These soft skills were honed during foundational experiences at AIG, with further refinement occurring at Goldman Sachs and J. P. Morgan. My personal mantra revolves around the belief that good fortune accompanies a positive outlook and a willingness to embrace change without fear of failure. When challenges arise, it's important to commend prompt reporting and refrain from assigning blame, fostering a culture of encouragement and growth.

Describe your approach to leadership. What principles or methods guide your leadership style?

I hold the belief that employees represent invaluable assets within the company. Despite the myriad of personalities and tasks at hand, I prioritize a dialogue-oriented approach where I actively listen to various viewpoints, strive for transparent information sharing, and encourage open communication. Decision-making processes often incorporate input from all levels, combining top-down directives with bottom-up dialogue, or delegate responsibility while offering necessary support. Throughout, teamwork remains paramount. While I don't adhere strictly to a singular leadership style, I find resonance with Drucker's management theory.

What methods do you employ to stay abreast of current industry trends, ensuring your organization remains on course for the future?

I enjoy exploring and experimenting with various new endeavors. Since joining Money Design, I've actively engaged with numerous services, particularly those in the online sphere, across  diverse sectors. I firmly believe in firsthand experience, considering it essential to understand these offerings fully. Additionally, I regularly utilize our company's services and observe individuals from diverse backgrounds to glean fresh insights.

How do you characterize Money Design as an organization, and what is the envisioned future direction you aim to pursue?

My career coincidentally commenced during the era of the financial big bang. Despite numerous attempts by asset management firms to convert savings into investments over the years, success remained elusive. Personally experiencing these challenges, I discovered that approximately 70 percent of our customers were first-time investors, sparking my interest in Money Design's services. Now, as the government promotes financial initiatives to elevate Japan as a leading asset management center, our company remains committed to empowering individuals unfamiliar with financial assets. Continuously evolving, we've enhanced our services to offer personalized solutions aided by technology. Looking ahead, I aspire to spearhead new initiatives throughout the organization, fostering teamwork that transcends bureaucratic constraints. Furthermore, we recognize abundant opportunities for collaboration with other firms.

Considering your extensive experience within the industry, what guidance would you offer to emerging leaders in the field?

Embrace a diverse range of interests and find fulfillment in embracing the constant flux of change. Cultivate meaningful connections within your network, actively engaging in the exchange of information with a multitude of individuals. Embody the principle of selfless victory, recognizing that prioritizing progress over personal gain leads to enduring success. By consistently advancing forward with resilience and determination, you'll not only navigate challenges but also thrive in achieving your goals.
