Co-Founder & CEO

Transformative leadership is essential for propelling a company's growth, especially in the dynamic realm of Fintech. As the Co-founder and CEO of TASConnect, Kingshuk Ghoshal (KG) brings forth this ethos through his unwavering commitment to innovation and the pursuit of client-focused solutions. TASConnect, an early-stage SaaS Fintech based in Singapore, is dedicated to transforming trade and supply chain finance with cutting-edge technology. KG's career spans over 26 years, beginning in the technology and telecom sectors, where he spearheaded pivotal projects in India’s Sunrise Telecom sector. Seeking to expand his leadership scope and scale, he took a bold mid-career break to pursue an MBA at INSEAD, paving his way into corporate and investment banking with Standard Chartered Bank. Over nearly two decades at SCB, he held various leadership roles, ultimately leading the ASEAN Global Subsidiaries business before co-founding TASConnect in partnership with SC Ventures, the venture building & capital arm of Standard Chartered Bank. Under his guidance, TASConnect has garnered accolades such as the Technology Excellence Award 2024 and recognition as one of the "20 Hottest Start-ups of 2023" by Singapore Business Review. Let’s dive in to know more.

With over 25 years of leadership experience in Financial Services and Technology across Asia, could you highlight the key milestones in your leadership journey?

The first-third of my 26+ year career was in the technology and telecom sector, while the remaining two-thirds were in corporate and investment banking. At Siemens, I led key telecom projects in India's early broadband infrastructure. Midway through my career, I left my telecom sector job to pursue an MBA at INSEAD, which transitioned me into the world of financial services with SCB in Asia. Over 16 years at SCB, I held various leadership roles, including MD of ASEAN’s global subsidiaries business, and eventually venturing into the startup space, co-founding TASConnect with SC Ventures.

Tell us about your academic journey at INSEAD Singapore. What valuable lessons did you gain from the campus experience beyond the classroom?

INSEAD significantly shaped my life, career, and personality. The MBA program, tailored for midcareer professionals, emphasizes leadership development through practical learning, high-profile case studies, and consulting projects, which have been instrumental in my career growth. The campus fostered an entrepreneurial mindset, where statistically 40-50 percent of alumni go on to start their own ventures. The widespread entrepreneurial energy, combined with diverse perspectives from students across the globe, enhances a global growth mindset. Beyond academics, INSEAD also provides a rich network of lifelong friendships, creating a strong support system that continues to influence both my personal and professional life.

I focus on the '2Es', ‘Envisioning’ a clear strategic direction & ‘Empowering’ teams to take ownership and be accountable

How are you leveraging these experiences to provide strategic insight & governance expertise at TASConnect?

Leading a start-up differs greatly from managing large institutions, requiring an adaptive leadership style. At TASConnect, I apply key lessons from my education and career, emphasizing the importance of 'unlearning' and fostering a growth mindset. I focus on the '2Es', ‘Envisioning’ a clear strategic direction and ‘Empowering’ teams to take ownership and be accountable. Building a strong, inclusive company culture early is crucial, promoting collaboration over individualism. While structure is valuable, flexibility encourages creativity and innovation, which I prioritize through experimentation and learning from failure. Above all, I believe in ethical leadership, leading by example to foster integrity and trust within the organization.

With your extensive leadership background in trade & supply chain finance, what key best practices do you share with your team based on your experience?

I emphasize setting a clear North Star for the business, establishing guiding principles to achieve our goals, and fostering a customer-centric mindset. In the volatile trade and supply chain finance world, it's essential to deliver a "customer wow" experience consistently. Agility and flexibility are critical, enabling the team to adapt quickly to new challenges. I encourage cross-functional collaboration to streamline workflows and improve efficiency. Leveraging technology and data analytics is crucial for optimizing processes and staying ahead of trends. Lastly, the importance of regulatory compliance is highlighted continuously to ensure the team stays informed about mitigating risks and maintain credibility.

How do you cultivate a culture of innovation within your team?

By creating an environment where creativity is valued, risk-taking is encouraged, and new ideas are welcomed. Open communication is key, providing a safe space for team members to share thoughts without fear of criticism. Recognizing and celebrating creativity, regardless of success, fuels optimism. Encouraging calculated risk-taking helps transform failure into a learning opportunity. Innovation should be integrated into team goals, with diversity and cross-functional collaboration prioritized to combine different perspectives. As a leader, it's essential to model innovative behavior, dedicating time to explore new ideas. Regular reflection and feedback ensure continuous improvement in the team's approach to innovation.

What impacts do you envision creating in your professional journey, and what advice would you offer to aspiring industry leaders based on your experience?

As a leader and venture founder, my journey begins with a problem-solving mindset. At TASConnect, our mission is to "Simplify Trade Value Chains. Profitably." By focusing on creating lasting client value, we can also generate significant social impact, as an efficient cross-border trade system supports economic development for SMEs and communities.

I aspire to be a thought leader who influences other entrepreneurs in shaping industry trends. This begins with setting a clear vision, which serves to motivate my peers, team and stakeholders. Adopting a growth mindset allows us to embrace challenges and learn from failures, promoting resilience in the face of change. Accommodating diverse perspectives is key to improve decision-making, while encouraging innovation and diversity in thought and expression fosters a culture of inclusivity.
