How has your professional journey been so far? What is the motivation that fuels your daily routines?

My academic journey commenced at the esteemed Chinese University of Hong Kong and extended through a prestigious Business School and Chico University in Beijing. This robust educational foundation bestowed me with a diverse business acumen, proving instrumental in shaping my career. In 2002, I embarked on entrepreneurship, establishing Centerpoint International - a venture focused on China's nascent business landscape. Serving as a trailblazer during China's emergence, I fostered synergistic relationships between global SMEs and local counterparts, akin to business matchmaking. Over two decades, our accomplishments resonated, offering clients insights into cash flows, risk mitigation, and cross-cultural intricacies.

The enduring success propels our commitment, especially relevant now as SMEs seek global expansion. Our proven track record underscores the impetus to facilitate thriving cross-border partnerships. Each new challenge, each distinct requirement, invigorates, as we orchestrate pathways to success for SMEs venturing into uncharted territories.

Could you tell us about the unique experiences The Chinese University of Hong Kong offers and what did you learn from the campus beyond academics?

I am associated with Chung Chi College at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a haven steeped in strong Christian values. As the steward of my department's presidency and a pivotal member of the university's Student Unions, I have forged a crucible for honing leadership dexterity. The crucible of student activities has melded me into a proficient collaborator, nurturing vital teamwork. This attribute has fostered robust interconnections, notably with those from diverse cultural tapestries.

However, the crux of my narrative lies within three cardinal principles. The pursuit of unrelenting excellence; the commitment to perpetual erudition; and the cultivation of an expansive global business perspective. These tenets, imbibed during my formative years at the Chinese University, have perennially illuminated my path over two decades of corporate journeying. From postgraduate pursuits to entrepreneurial visions, even to my international pedagogical pursuits in entrepreneurship, the underpinning of these guiding principles has been manifest.

How would you define Centrepoint International as an organization and its position in the market? What is the unique proposition that your organization offers to clients?

Undoubtedly, the bedrock of successful business matchmaking is trust - a cornerstone that I hold paramount. My linguistic versatility, encompassing proficiency in four languages - English, Chinese, French, and even some Spanish, sets me apart. This linguistic arsenal grants me a distinct edge, enabling me to directly engage with an international clientele. This is a competitive advantage seldom found in the business matchmaking realm.

My global voyages and teaching escapades span numerous countries, from Finland to Central European nations, Australia to England, and the cultural gloom of Japan and Korea. These immersive experiences have endowed me with a profound understanding of diverse cultures, fostering an innate respect for individuals from all walks of life. This range, coupled with what I humbly term my personality, serves as the glue that binds the trust between our clientele. Our reputation thrives on word-of-mouth recommendations, a testament to the success of our approach.

Tell us about your leadership approach. What are the guidelines or methodologies you follow as a leader?

I proudly identify as an authentic leader, one who champions transparency, genuineness, and solid honesty. Over my extensive tenure leading my company - comprising a team of multicultural, highly educated individuals spanning two decades, I have recognized the paramount need to inspire and motivate these seasoned experts. To this end, I uphold a set of guiding leadership principles. My leadership is rooted in a mission-driven approach, employing unique ideals to navigate the intricate terrain of business matchmaking. Our endeavors thrive on dreams and aspirations, especially pertinent in the entrepreneurial landscape of matchmaking projects.

Vision clarity stands as a cornerstone, facilitating alignment among partners, understanding client needs, and fostering robust collaboration. It is in this context that instinct plays a pivotal role. With an array of international inquiries streaming in, hailing from diverse corners such as South Africa, Zambia, Finland, and Hungary, the ability to intuitively decipher their exclusive requirements is paramount. The capacity to envision and execute long-term strategies is another facet of my leadership. I implement specific, measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that guide my team while remaining receptive to varying perspectives, nurturing an environment where both supporting and dissenting opinions are welcomed.

What is the future destination you are heading towards?

The realm of business matchmaking across international borders often brims with challenges, leading to a history of disappointments and failures. In this landscape, smaller enterprises have frequently hesitated to explore foreign ventures. However, over the past two decades, my team and I have meticulously crafted a resilient business model that not only bridges these gaps but transforms overseas business matchmaking into triumphs. This is our mission and our essence, an accomplishment I am keen to share.

Global economic growth is intertwined with entrepreneurship, a catalyst for job creation in times when opportunities seem scarce. Our journey commenced within the unexplored Chinese market at the turn of the millennium. Witnessing China's meteoric rise, our focus remains on the mainland, albeit within a shifting Asian supply chain landscape. Our trajectory now steers towards facilitating Chinese companies' global expansion, fostering collaborations across continents. We are extending our footprint to new horizons - Southeast Asian nations like Vietnam and Indonesia - regions where our proven model can continue to flourish.

Our future compass aligns with knowledge dissemination, a knowledge-driven enterprise built upon risk mitigation. This transcends mere capital infusion; it is about strategic acumen. As we march forward, we aspire to empower a multitude of SMEs globally, kindling growth and opportunities. Trust forms the bedrock of successful matchmaking endeavors, underscored by a purpose-driven approach that values cultural sensitivity, accurate data, and a mutual win-win ethos. Considering business matchmaking as a nuanced negotiation process is pivotal. Matchmakers bear the responsibility of defining a negotiation settlement zone and fostering collaborative agreements. This isn't a zero-sum game; it's about evidence-based negotiation where numbers reveal the truth and drive informed decisions.

Lastly, navigating personality clashes is crucial. The world of matchmaking often intersects with diverse values and cultures, which can spark conflicts and jeopardize success. Remember, retaining satisfied clients outweighs managing discontented ones.
