Can you provide a concise overview of your professional history and experiences? Additionally, what drives your daily activities and keeps you motivated?

In my professional journey, I prioritize maximizing my potential, a philosophy extending beyond work to all aspects of life. Bruce Springsteen's words resonate: 'When it comes to luck, you make your own.' I firmly believe in the power of dedication over chance. Upholding professionalism as fundamental, I seek roles where I can exert my utmost effort and contribute effectively. This drive propels me forward, ensuring that I am consistently striving to do my best in every endeavor. Whether in work or personal pursuits, I am fueled by the desire to excel and make a positive impact.

Could you elaborate on your approach to leadership? What guiding principles or methodologies do you adhere to as a leader?

In my role overseeing the financial directorate at Goldstar Line, I manage three primary departments: comptroller, treasury, and the economic department. Each department plays a crucial role corresponding to a specific time frame: past, present, and future. The comptroller is responsible for financial reporting and bookkeeping, focusing on past performance. Meanwhile, the treasury department manages cash flow, bank accounts, and loans, addressing present financial matters. Lastly, the economic department handles budgeting, forecasts, and analysis, concentrating on future financial planning.

I Strive To Cultivate A Culture Where Managers Feel Accountable For Their Work & Analysis, Encouraging Them To Take Ownership & Be Proactive

My leadership philosophy emphasizes trust, delegation, and empowerment. I strive to cultivate a culture where managers feel accountable for their work and analysis, encouraging them to take ownership and be proactive. Honesty is paramount, even in the face of mistakes, fostering an environment of continuous learning and growth. Together, as a cohesive team, we operate with mutual trust and support, ensuring that each member maximizes their potential while working collaboratively towards our collective goals.

What methods do you employ to stay abreast of current industry trends, thereby guiding your organization towards future success?

I regularly peruse market reports from renowned research firms such as Drewry and Alphaliner, as well as reports from banking institutions. Accessing various data sources weekly, I prioritize knowledge acquisition as vital for success. Additionally, I stay informed by participating in conferences and relevant forums. It's essential for a company to proactively plan its commercial and financial strategies, staying ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving industry landscape.

What innovative financial strategies or advancements is the organization currently pursuing? Could you outline the financial roadmap you've devised for Gold Star Line?

Amidst COVID, the shipping industry witnessed a notable upswing, marked by unprecedented demand for containerized services coupled with a shortage of vessel supply. However, this cycle has concluded, resulting in a decline in freight rates. Goldstar's financial roadmap prioritizes bolstering the business, ensuring the finance directorate provides comprehensive support to empower the commercial teams effectively.

What guidance would you offer to aspiring financial leaders entering the industry?

Strategize for the long term. Achieving success as a financial leader hinges not solely on exceptional financial acumen but also on networking, navigating politics, and cultivating personal connections. To ascend the career ladder, dedicating time to forging the right relationships, both within and outside the organization, is essential. These connections play a pivotal role in propelling you towards your desired professional goals.
