One such leader is Dr. Unmesh Jagtap, CEO of Ino Group of Companies.

Dr Unmesh Jagtap through his innovation, foresight, and unwavering commitment to sustainability has propelled solar power to the forefront of the global energy landscape. Engaging in an idiosyncratic interaction with CEO Insights Asia magazine, Dr. Unmesh shares the imperious details of his journey as one of the influencing business entrepreneurs in the country. Tell us about your professional background and what inspired you to establish Ino Group of Companies?

I pursued bachelor in mechanical engineering from Pune University and Master’s in Mechanical Engineering in the USA, where I got the chance to  work in Solar Energy Laboratory which was first of its kind laboratory in the USA. Post this, I have pursued Ph.D. in Solar Energy from The Thames International University in Paris. During that time India did not have an organized sector for Solar energy so, I joined my father’s engineering business. Later I was urged by my mentors and guides in the USA to start my own firm and utilize the knowledge acquired during my research to provides feasible services in solar energy industry. Therefore, I decided so set up Ino Group of companies and we offer total solution for energy conservation like audits, data analysis, energy mapping, and cooling solutions.

Tell us about your flagship offerings and what are the value additions that customers can expect from your offerings?

We operate in various sectors in solar energy including manufacturing, engineering, designing, consultancy, repairing, developing, fabricating, assembling, production, sales, trading, distribution, marketing, servicing of solar based products such as ground mounted projects, solar structures and designing, projects based on PPA, and solar pumping solutions. Ino Group of Companies is the one stop shop for all energy related solution and we offer economically feasible solutions. We also assist clients in energy conservation  through energy mapping. Ino Group of Companies has developed reflecting paint which was selected by World Bank for IFC platforms in Mexico and Nigeria and has also developed Smart power Optimizer which helped save 15-20 percent energy consumption.

What is your leadership approach. What are the methodologies that you follow to lead your team?

I have a systematic working approach because it provides clear goals and well-defined roadmaps to achieve them. My team has been with us for almost 15-20 years and I believe that integrity and honesty are more important than any qualifications. This holds true for any startup which has numerous projects since our teams become the face of the firm and their behaviors define our brand image. I also believe in analyzing data rigorously rather than drawing assumption to enhance overall organizational performance. This ensures that potential risks and opportunities are thoroughly evaluated, leading to informed and effective decisions.

What is the future destination you are heading towards?

We envision to expand our horizons by venturing into manufacturing of solar modules to meet the increasing demand for solar panels and components. We will soon be starting our manufacturing plant, with a German company SWISS LUXRA International , in Maharashtra. This will allow us to have greater control over the supply chain, ensure timely delivery and high-quality products. We also aim to commit to research to improve solar energy efficiency, storage and integration, and mentor aspiring entrepreneurs in the solar energy industry with guidance, resources, and expertise.

In the light of your strong experience within the industry, what advice would you give to the budding industry leaders?

In today’s dynamic and fast-paced business landscape startups have become the epitome of innovation and disruption. Therefore, it is crucial to have technical expertise to ensure long term success. Understanding the intricacies of any industry and the technology driving it allows one to make informed decisions, spot opportunities, and navigate challenges effectively. Also, Patience is essential in any project. Successful venture require time to develop, grow, and establish itself in the market, so don’t take shortcuts and compromise on the quality. Rather make strategic decisions and contribute to sustainable growth.
