Could you share insights into the educational environment at Curtin University, emphasizing any lessons beyond the academic curriculum?

Indeed, the lively and encouraging campus atmosphere at Curtin University greatly enhanced my time there. Doctorate students' friendships fostered a feeling of community and provided invaluable support throughout the demanding PhD process. The university's culture recognized the time-consuming nature of a PhD and welcomed a range of lifestyles.

In my opinion, my supervisor's resolute assistance—particularly with the thesis's completion—showed a sincere dedication that went above and beyond. Curtin University fostered an environment that valued personal well-being, reinforcing the importance of collaboration, understanding, and resilience in the pursuit of higher education.

Unlocking the potential of every project requires a blend of foresight, innovation, & a genuine commitment to creating spaces that inspire & transform

Provide an overview of Australasian Property Group, elucidating its organizational role and market positioning.

My co-founder Ian Jordan and I had a passion for real estate, which led to the founding of Australasian Property Group, which started off small with small-scale initiatives. Our business has grown over the years, taking on a variety of endeavors such as government-sponsored disability initiatives, medical, and commercial ventures. What sets us apart in the Australian marketplace is our hands-on approach, overseeing the entire value chain. From conducting feasibilities and securing capital to project execution and timely completion, we maintain control.

We have accomplished major milestones despite our small size, which speaks to our dedication and efficiency. Our unique position allows us to navigate the complexities of property development, emphasizing quality and success in each endeavor.

When evaluating the profitability of an investment, what key factors do you consider, and how do you ensure optimal success rates for APG's?

At Australasian Property Group, our strategy revolves around acquiring properties judiciously. We meticulously assess various scenarios, anticipating and preparing for potential challenges in every project.

Our team utilizes a collaborative risk matrix, evaluating macro and micro factors for each project. The internal matrix evolves through continuous refinement, integrating lessons learned to enhance success in future acquisitions.

With a cautious approach, we might identify numerous viable projects but only pursue a select few, depending on market dynamics.

What does your future professional trajectory look like, and what strategic plans do you have moving forward?

Looking ahead, our focus at Australasian Property Group centers on adaptability within the dynamic Australian market. Recognizing the current under-supply, we remain agile, avoiding a rigid adherence to specific development scales. Unlike some developers, we don't limit ourselves to certain project sizes, understanding the importance of maneuvering with market trends. Our strength lies in the ability to shift focus based on the evolving needs of the real estate landscape.

Currently, with residential projects in high demand and office spaces facing challenges, we navigate these nuances by staying informed on macro-micro data. Our strategic approach involves continuous market assessment, allowing us to make informed decisions and stay responsive to the ever-changing industry dynamics.

As a leader in the industry, what is the piece of advice you'd like to give to the upcoming leaders?

One invaluable piece of advice for emerging leaders is to prioritize building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative environment. Success in leadership is not just about individual accomplishments but also about creating a supportive team. Cultivate open communication, encourage diverse perspectives, and actively listen to your team members. Embrace the strengths and talents of those around you, as collective success often surpasses individual triumphs. By investing in relationships, you not only create a positive work culture but also lay the foundation for enduring professional networks. Remember that leadership is a journey intertwined with the growth and success of the entire team, making collaboration and genuine connections essential elements of effective leadership.
