Business consulting experience enhances resilient problem-solving skills. The dynamic nature of consulting cultivates adaptability and fortitude in individuals' approach to challenges. Overall, the multifaceted benefits of business consulting experience contribute significantly to professional growth and expertise in navigating complex workplace scenarios.

My mission is to empower individuals to be their best selves by ensuring they feel seen, listened to, & valued

Can you provide a concise overview of your professional history and experiences? What drives your daily routines?

My career journey is defined by the belief that everything works together for good. Initially, Human Resources wasn't my first choice; advertising and psychology were. However, not landing the degree I wanted turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Following my high school counselor's advice, I pursued an undergraduate degree in HR management, which proved to be the right track for me. Excelling in my studies, I discovered a passion that became a lifelong career. After graduation, I became an in-house HR professional in Manila. Two years later, I pursued an MBA at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), driven by a desire to be an HR leader with a voice in leadership meetings. The MBA broadened my understanding of the business and its different functions, making me a more effective HR leader. Subsequently, I became an HR Business Partner and eventually moved to Singapore, spending the past 17 years as an HR consultant. Currently, I am the country leader for Great Place To Work Philippines and serve as the principal consultant for the region.

How do you characterize the organization and its current market standing of Great Place to Work Philippines?

Great Place To Work is an organization with a mission to help every place become a great place to work for all. We operate in the Philippines with our regional headquarters in Singapore. While what constitutes a great workplace varies for each individual, our research indicates that the quality of relationships within a company is a key determinant. We advocate for a high-trust workplace culture, emphasizing that everyone plays a role in fostering it, starting with organizational leaders. Studies show that high-trust cultures benefit both employees and businesses. At the Philippines Best Workplaces, 90 percent of employees report a psychologically and emotionally healthy workplace, compared to 77 percent at a typical Philippines company. Further, 91 percent of the employees at Philippines Best Workplaces want to work in their company for a long time. This is only true for 80 percent of the employees at a typical company. 2024 marks our fifth year in the Philippines, and we've seen substantial growth year-on-year. In 2023, we conducted trust surveys for over 600,000 Philippine-based employees, an increase of over 40 percent from 2022. This wealth of data helps us understand Filipino workers' needs, improve their employee experience, and positively impact business performance and the country's economy. Beyond accolades, partnering companies in the Philippines recognize the chance for talent management and productivity. They also aim to inspire other organizations and leaders to cultivate a high-trust workplace culture for the benefit of people, businesses, and the country.

What's your leadership approach, and what guidelines or methodologies do you follow as a leader?

I am a highly collaborative leader. I value each team member's unique skills and talents. It's my responsibility to discover, bring out, grow, and nurture these individual talents. I also work on instilling belief in my team members about their capabilities and providing opportunities for them to showcase their greatness. This collaborative approach results in not only achieving or surpassing goals but also makes the work enjoyable for everyone. I acknowledge that every team member plays a crucial role, and their collective efforts form the whole. Open and authentic communication is crucial, even if it entails admitting mistakes or apologizing. Being human as a leader is key as transparency and authenticity strengthen connections within the team. While discipline, where needed, is also vital, prioritizing the team's well-being is paramount, as caring for people fosters their dedication to the business. I see leadership as a privileged responsibility, akin to the impactful role of being a parent.

As someone immersed in the HR sector, what motivates and propels you forward in this field?

In my decades-long journey in Human Resources and consulting, a compelling sense of purpose has been my driving force. As a consultant, I've had the unique privilege of being the voice for thousands of employees, making a difference even for those I may never meet. One memorable experience involved addressing the concerns of working mothers, leading to the implementation of flexible working hours. The alignment of values is another crucial aspect of my career, guiding bold decisions, including resigning when organizational values clashed with my own. The joy of accomplishing meaningful objectives serves as a continual motivator. However, since becoming a mother, the family has taken precedence, surpassing other motivators. As a leader, we are to model the values of the company and the behaviors that we want our colleagues to emulate. But more than that, what motivates me is being that example to my son as he witnesses and learns from how I live my life. I can never be perfect in both roles, but I can always try to do my best.

How do you stay informed about current industry trends to guide your organization toward the future?

Like many leaders, I avidly read books and engage in continuous learning opportunities to foster growth not just professionally but personally as well. Connecting with other business leaders through associations, and engagements, and having a coach and mentor further contribute to my development. In my dual role as Managing Partner for the Philippines and Principal Consultant for ASEAN, I frequently interact with business leaders during culture coaching sessions. This not only aids clients in enhancing workplace experiences but also serves as a valuable learning opportunity for me. I've observed that effective leaders excel in listening and seeking to understand, recognizing that solutions often lie within the insights of their teams. Actively listening to my team members is a key strategy I employ to stay updated and navigate the organization toward the future.

What is the ultimate goal or destination you aim to reach in the future?

Excited about the future, I'm at a career stage to pursue long-held aspirations. While continuing to enhance workplace cultures as a business leader and consultant, I am also a certified organizational coach. I aim to work closely with professionals, including emerging leaders, contributing to their growth amid evolving business landscapes. I’ve always wanted to teach, this has been a dream since university, and I'm eager to make a positive impact on the next generation of leaders. My commitment extends to creating better workplaces not only in the Philippines but across our region.
