Could you please share your professional background, experiences, and what motivates you in your daily routine?

I have been working in the field of architecture since 2011, after graduating from the University of Santo Tomas. My journey began with my first job in Singapore, where I had the opportunity to work with other cultures and environments. After then I worked in the Philippines, Vietnam, and Japan. This experience broadened my perspective on how architecture operates, exposing me to different approaches and practices within the field.

Throughout my career, I have gained valuable knowledge and expertise, encountering various challenges and learning opportunities. These experiences have fueled my motivation to establish my own company in the future, as I aspire to contribute my skills and ideas to the architectural landscape. As for my daily routine, what truly drives me is the passion I have for creating meaningful spaces that enhance people's lives. Each day, I strive to channel my creativity, knowledge, and dedication into my work, aiming to deliver exceptional architectural solutions that leave a lasting impact. The motivation that propels me forward lies in the desire to make a difference through architecture and create spaces that bring joy and fulfillment to those who inhabit them.

Can you share your academic experience at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and how these learnings have been valuable in your career?

My academic journey at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) was characterized by a comprehensive and intricate curriculum. The academic structure at UST, although complex, instilled a sense of confidence in me and my fellow graduates as we entered the professional arena. One notable aspect was the emphasis on developing our character and giving us the capability to be technically trained with the proper skills needed.

One of the remarkable features of UST is the teaching standard and environment that brings us to our most creative sense. The vast experience and expertise of the professors offered us invaluable insights and knowledge that prepared us for the realities of the professional world. The blend of theoretical teachings and practical wisdom based on real-life experiences was instrumental for us in our preparation for the challenges ahead.

Additionally, this combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application significantly contributed to our growth and development, both personally and professionally.

The learnings acquired from UST have undoubtedly played a crucial role in shaping my career. They have equipped me with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to navigate the demands of the architectural industry.

How do you define Lu-Architecture’s position in the current market?

Lu-Architecture is a forward-thinking organization that focuses on innovation, cutting-edge design thinking, and the utilization of new technologies. In the current market, we have positioned ourselves by embracing the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM is a widely adopted approach globally, surpassing traditional drafting skills. By leveraging BIM, we gain a competitive edge in the industry.

Our commitment to exploring new advancements allows us to seize opportunities that provide us with distinct advantages. We actively engage in collaborations and partnerships with prominent contractors and companies, fostering a dynamic environment that facilitates cutting-edge architectural solutions. By staying at the forefront of industry developments and nurturing strategic partnerships, we aim to become one of the industry specialists.

Can you tell me about your leadership style and the methodologies you follow to guide your team?

In terms of leadership, I strive to incorporate my own experiences and knowledge into guiding my team. I believe in developing the skills of each staff member, focusing on both technical and soft skills. Through various training programs, we enhance our capabilities as architects, whether it be software proficiency, project estimations, or practical construction knowhow. We foster a collaborative environment where teamwork is valued, enabling us to collectively bring greater value to our company.

What is your future vision for the next five years?

Our future roadmap is centered on embracing innovation and automation in the architecture and construction industry. We aim to stay at the forefront of the latest market trends and cuttingedge technologies in architecture and construction. Currently, we are witnessing advancements such as 3D printing of structures, advanced artificial intelligence, and automated building construction technologies. As the market continues to evolve, we are committed to keeping pace with these developments, ensuring that our work remains innovative and aligned with the changing needs of our industry.

What advice would you like to offer to industry leaders?

As leaders, we must advance the industry, educate the next generation, and prioritize sustainability in architecture. Integrating designs within the community is crucial. By championing practices that promote and foster a sense of community, we shape an environment that enhances lives and stands as a testament to our expertise.
