The Business of Problem Solving

Separator

The phrase "Modern Problems Require Modern Solutions," popularized by the renowned American comedian Dave Chappelle, has become a widely recognized meme on the internet. This iconic frame originates from a skit aired in 2004. Beyond its humorous intent, these words have gained new significance in contemporary contexts. Elon Musk, the multibillionaire and global business icon, exemplifies this sentiment through his efforts to address challenges with cutting-edge technologies.

One of Elon Musk's notable ventures, Starlink, is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, offering satellite internet access to over 50 countries. SpaceX privately dispatched numerous Starlink terminals to Ukraine, enabling the war-torn nation's military to establish communication by connecting to the nearly 4,000 satellites SpaceX has launched into low-Earth orbit. These shipments were funded by SpaceX, with additional support from governments, including the United States and France.

Simultaneously, Elon also envisions making space accessible to the general public. SpaceX's Starship, a nearly 400-foot-tall rocket, is being developed to transport cargo and groups of people beyond Earth. Remarkably, the cost of Starship is projected to be under $10 million, in stark contrast to NASA's space missions, which currently cost $4.1 billion per launch. This represents a revolutionary breakthrough. Although the scale differs, there are many global leaders who are increasingly focused on addressing societal challenges through their business ventures. In this issue, we have curated a collection of stories highlighting exceptional global leaders who are in the business of solving problems. Do let us know your thoughts.
