Keep the Focus on Sustainability Intact

Going green is not a feel-good option for the world anymore. By now, the world has a fair idea of the need for sustainable businesses, which incorporate advanced features that are environmentally friendly and highly resource-efficient throughout their operations. The global academia has a significant role to play in the future of sustainable business practices. It’s a great omen that several top institutes are setting the benchmarks high.

One of the globally leading business schools setting high benchmarks is INSEAD, which has always been sensitive to this vital need. The institute has progressively incorporated sustainability topics into its MBA curriculum. This includes all 14 core courses and a mandatory 3-day real-life business simulation capstone. De La Salle University (DLSU), Philippines, also has a holistic sustainability approach, involving all stakeholders and using the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for sustainable growth. Delving deeper, DLSU focuses on three key areas to create a sustainable impact: operations, research, academics, and social engagement. A group of students from DLSU recently even bagged the P1-million grant grand prize of the “Code Green for Campuses,” a competition sponsored by Lopez-owned First Gen Corporation for innovations in curbing campus emissions. Last year, the University of Tokyo launched a new research organization, the UTokyo Center for Climate Solutions (UTCCS), aiming to promote collaborative research on climate and society and combat climate change based on scientific evidence. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow is setting a great example toward this common, highly ambitious goal in India. IIM Lucknow has launched a full-fledged PG program in sustainable management, which aims to develop management professionals with a holistic perspective on economic, social, and environmental issues.

As the global academic realm journeys to the future, it is important to keep the focus on sustainability intact. On this note, we publish this exclusive alumni leadership special edition. Feedback is appreciated.
