While appreciating the efforts from the academic world, the demand and supply are never in balance, primarily due to the insane pace of technological and methodological advancements in the business world. However, over the past few years, several educational institutions worldwide have been quite successful in adapting to the trends and creating global citizens, majorly owing to technological advancements and connectivity.Universiti Malaya (UM) has been at the forefront of this revolution. UM recently added yet another golden feather to its cap by emerging as champion in the annual Huawei APAC ICT Competition 2023 held in Jakarta, Indonesia, defeating 290 other leading universities across 10 countries to be eligible for the Global Final of the Huawei ICT Competition in May 2023. The competition attracted more than 4,800 Huawei ICT Academy students and teachers. UM won the first prize for their winning idea based on a network optimization solution designed to improve the performance of TCP/IP-based networks identifying a need for more efficient and reliable network communication, particularly in large-scale enterprise environments. Leveraging Huawei's networking technologies to perfection, UM worked on developing a comprehensive enterprise solution.Originally established under British rule as The Straits and Federated Malay States Government Medical School, UM came into existence in 1905. After a series of transformations till the mid-way of the 20th century, the institute was named the University of Malaya in 1949.
