One of the features that sets Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), a leading higher education institution in Malaysia, apart is its ability to come up with relevant partnerships that enhance the connection between industry and academia. For instance, UiTM recently cracked a partnership with PharmaKure, an innovative company at the forefront of precision medicine for Alzheimer's Disease and related neurodegenerative conditions. This alliance focuses on enhancing research on the application of machine learning in the early detection of Alzheimer's Disease through blood analysis, leveraging the strengths of both academic and industry expertise. The collaboration seeks to harness UiTM's clinical research capabilities alongside PharmaKure's cutting-edge blood testing and machine learning technologies. The goal is to facilitate the early identification of Alzheimer's Disease, thereby accelerating the creation of essential diagnostic tools on a global scale. PharmaKure has also recently reported the success of its blood-based biomarker test. It is also important to note the social relevance of this partnership, especially for Malaysia. Professor Dato' Dr. Abu Bakar Abdul Majeed, Dean of Pharmacy Faculty in UiTM, explains, "Malaysia is expected to be an aging nation by 2030, with almost half a million dementia patients predicted in 2050. That's why this research partnership is important; we want to drive innovation and have a societal impact both here and across the rest of the world." Established in 1956 as the RIDA (Rural & Industrial Development Authority) Training Centre, UiTM comprises one main campus and 34 satellite campuses and offers over 500 programs. In this special yearly issue, we tell the stories of some of the stellar alumni of the institute.
