| | DECEMBER 20234 With a new round of diplomatic discussions, Qatar and Cyprus are establishing a distinguished partnership and promising economic opportunities. Recently, the emir of Qatar, Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, received the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Nikos Christodoulides, at the Amiri Diwan to discuss bilateral relations and their prospects, in addition to several issues of common interest. This visit and subsequent discussions open wide opportunities for strengthening, developing, and advancing ties between the two countries in various fields.The diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cyprus date back more than two decades. The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus was opened in Doha in 2004, while the Qatari Embassy was opened in Nicosia in 2007 as the first Gulf embassy in the Republic of Cyprus. This new meeting takes the bilateral relationship to the next level. According to Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the two countries share the goal of strengthening and expanding cooperation between Doha and Nicosia, especially in the economic field, to inaugurate a new era of prosperity between the two countries. He also expressed his thoughts about the promising opportunities for growth in many other sectors in Cyprus, including maritime transport, tourism, large-scale development projects, education, health, research, and renewable energy. He also clarified that these sectors were discussed during the official meetings. The renewed strength of the bilateral relationship with Qatar is a sure bet to benefit Cyprus' business ecosystem enormously.
