Over the past few years, several leading educational institutions worldwide have successfully adapted to the trends and created global citizens, majorly owing to technological advancements and connectivity. This has resulted in the world's top institutes setting an example of more interventions in society by finding solutions to societal problems faster. Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is at the forefront of this intervention. HKBU recently set yet another example of this by organizing a Smart City Forum themed "Smart, Connected, Green, and Humanistic. The event, aimed at fostering cooperation and contributing to the promotion of new quality productive forces and international development in the digital sector, was held at HKBU. The forum was organized by the Department of Government and International Studies at HKBU in collaboration with various industry associations. As the main organizer of this forum, Li Yiran, assistant professor in the Department of Government and International Studies at HKBU, shared theoretical research results and practical experiences in smart city construction, emphasizing the role of AI in enhancing government services, strengthening cross-departmental collaboration, and improving working efficiency. The forum also highlighted the latest advancements, tools, and strategic approaches essential for the governance of smart cities. It concluded with the unveiling of the "Greater Bay Area Smart City Integration White Paper." This seminal document, spearheaded by Hong Kong Baptist University in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, aims to investigate fresh avenues for collaboration between the government and businesses. Furthermore, it proposes strategic advice for legislative processes and the evolution of pertinent sectors. We appreciate the efforts of HKBU and are glad to present our yearly special issue dedicated to the prestigious alumni of HKBU.Sujith VasudevanManaging Editoreditor@ceoinsightsasia.comIntervention in Societal Challenges
