| | OCTOBER 20234 Total medical rehabilitation, involving patients' physical and psychological health, is still a new concept in China. Intrinsically, the common awareness among the public and the availability of such services are, in turn, lacking. The medical school of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and China Pacific Insurance have joined forces to establish a rehabilitation institute, the medical school revealed. The institute aims to enhance the research and clinical practice of rehabilitation, which helps people recover from various health conditions that affect their abilities. The institute will conduct scientific research on the key clinical issues of rehabilitation medicine and use new and innovative technologies to improve the physical and psychological health of patients who need rehabilitation. The institute's director, Dr Shan Chunlei, said that the facility will act as a platform for scientific innovation, transferring research results, academic exchange, talent development, and social service. "We will focus on an innovative interdisciplinary model with medicine, science, and engineering to boost the development of rehabilitation medicine and build the institute into a leading professional facility in the nation and the world to push the quick growth of China's rehabilitation capability and service quality," Shan said. The imperial edict of April 8, 1896, founded Nanyang Public School, which later became Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It belongs to the C9 League, Double First Class University Plan, Project 985, and Project 211. The university changed its name several times and adopted its current one in 1959. Shanghai Second Medical University was merged with Shanghai Jiao Tong University on July 18, 2005. We dedicate this special issue to the prestigious alumni of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
