Witnessing the evolving landscape and a strong desire to success in the gigantic change in the city ever, Chiu embarks on a path of entrepreneurship instead of an ordinary career, realizing that to effect meaningful change, he needed to delve into systems, processes, and management.

After a period serving the medical sector in Hong Kong, Chiu decided to build his career path in the commercial world. Starting from a local industrial company as a junior staff, in 12 years he was able to sit in senior regional position of a key global industrial group overseeing Asia Pacific region. However, Chiu's entrepreneurial spirit resurfaced when he observed the booming of quality children extracurricular service in the market. With strong business sense Chiu successfully introduced a new collaborative model via interneted program suppliers and service operator thus leading to the establishment of the Octopus Group, where it revolutionized children's education and entertainment industries. His success expanded beyond Hong Kong, reaching Shenzhen and Dongguan before the company's acquisition. Since then, with the mega deployment of the national policy about Belt and Road initiative, he explored new opportunities along the Belt and Road, founding Paladin ASEAN Consulting to facilitate strategic consultation services in ASEAN countries which leveraged his intensive experience and connection in his previous role that has vast exposure in the region.

The onset of the global pandemic underscored the importance of healthcare, prompting Chiu to refocus his efforts in this sector. Recognizing his background in physiotherapy, he seized the opportunity to transform a single clinic into a chain of 13 branches, pioneering branded physiotherapy and rehabilitation services in Hong Kong.

His dedication to continuous learning culminated in the attainment of a law degree from the London University, an EMBA degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and ultimately an engineering doctoral degree from the City University of Hong Kong, with a focus on medical technology for the elderly.Beyond business success, Chiu remains committed to societal welfare, establishing initiatives to address the healthcare needs of the aging population. His leadership extends beyond the boardroom, serving as the founding president of the Greater Bay Area Elderly Service Development Association, reflecting his dedication to community development. Thomas Chiu's journey epitomizes the transformative power of effective leadership, demonstrating how resilience, innovation, and a commitment to learning can steer a company to unparalleled success. Let’s hear more from him.

As the CEO, what factors do you consider when formulating effective corporate growth strategies?

Effective growth strategies can be categorized into two levels: foundational strategies should prioritize demand-driven approaches. This involves assessing our existing competencies or areas for expansion to identify which demands we can effectively address. Additionally, we seize opportune moments, such as favorable environmental or policy conditions, to vigorously pursue the company's goals. Regular reviews are essential to track progress and make necessary adjustments, while comprehensive communication with employees fosters unity across the organization, enhancing the strategy's effectiveness.

At a more advanced level, we aim to cultivate new demands and devise methods to meet them. When an industry or specific service achieves a certain scale or market acceptance, swift refinement of service and product features is crucial. This entails establishing pertinent quality standards or process specifications and fostering a market preference for high-quality and meticulous management practices. By instilling a demand for higher-level or innovative needs, we shape market dynamics through our capabilities. Adhering to the demand-driven principle, we endeavor to leverage our strengths to fulfill emerging demands and generate momentum for growth.

What key protocols do you enforce to guarantee the team delivers uninterrupted physiotherapy services to clients under your leadership?

In Prohab, every patient is placed at the core of our approach. While collaborating with other teams, our therapist team operates within their specialized roles, meticulously documenting all diagnoses, treatments, and progress. Regular case meetings are convened to facilitate seamless communication, ensuring each patient receives the optimal treatment and follow-up care.

What collaborative initiatives have you spearheaded to broaden the group’s brand and array of treatments and services for a wider audience?

While many physiotherapy treatments solely utilize modalities like electrical therapy or manipulative therapy aimed at assisting individuals in their rehabilitation from pain or injuries, or simply just a symptomatic relief treatment, the concept extends far beyond. Physiotherapy encompasses non-invasive methods for enhancing health on a broader scale. This expanded definition opens avenues for a wider range of services. By integrating various therapies alongside dietary modifications, exercise regimens, and lifestyle adjustments, I can achieve outcomes that resonate with the broader definition of physiotherapy in non-invasive health enhancement. This enables the provision of more diverse services and fosters collaboration with professionals across diverse fields, ultimately expanding the group's service offerings.

What are your future plans moving forward?

In addition to enhancing our retail clinic businesses and elderly outreach services in Hong Kong, we are expanding our offerings in healthcare, dining, accommodation, and transportation for retirees across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Through internal development and partnerships with local and international brands, we aim to deliver innovative, high-quality products and services catering to individuals seeking cost-effective retirement options. Furthermore, we will actively research and develop additional health management and wellness solutions, leveraging our existing customer base to foster a circular economy and enhance overall customer value while optimizing acquisition costs and bolstering business performance.

Advice for Budding Leaders:

As a leader, balancing short-term strategies with long-term vision is vital. Prioritizing forward-thinking approaches and technological integration ensures innovation and competitiveness in service offerings. Additionally, meticulous financial management, including cash flow, is imperative for sustainable operations. Acknowledging individual expertise limitations and fostering collaboration among professionals is key for holistic success. In business, success thrives on collective expertise rather than individual prowess, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts.
