TheThe Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has teamed up with Converge ICT Solutions Inc. to enhance digital connectivity for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the Philippines, particularly targeting remote and underserved areas. The partnership was formalized on September 10, 2024, through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that aims to bridge the digital divide and foster technological adoption among MSMEs.

Under the agreement, DTI will spearhead the planning, promotion, and execution of various digital initiatives tailored for MSMEs. These initiatives will include training programs, workshops, and seminars designed to help businesses integrate new technologies and strategies. The objective is to empower MSMEs with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital age.

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. will utilize its extensive fiber optic network to provide high-speed internet connectivity to MSMEs, especially those in remote areas. The company will also develop cost-effective products and services specifically catered to the needs of these businesses. Qualified MSMEs can expect to have internet services installed within three business days of completing application requirements, subject to network availability and port capacity.

Trade and Industry Acting Secretary Cristina A. Roque and Converge ICT Solutions Inc. CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy signed the MOU during a ceremony that underscored the importance of digitalization in MSME development. Roque highlighted that digitalization is a core element of the DTI’s five-point agenda and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to equipping MSMEs with the resources needed to succeed in a digital economy.

"Digitalization is at the heart of our five-point agenda, and we are dedicated to providing MSMEs with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive in the digital age", Roque said. She emphasized the alignment of this initiative with the vision of 'Bagong Pilipinas', ensuring that every MSME, regardless of size or location, has access to digital technology to contribute to national prosperity.

Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy echoed this sentiment, emphasizing his company’s commitment to supporting MSMEs, which make up 99.5 percent of business enterprises in the Philippines. Uy reiterated Converge’s dedication to leaving no one behind, particularly in the MSME sector.

In addition to the MOU, the DTI has launched the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Roadmap 2.0 and the country’s first Center for AI Research. These initiatives are aimed at advancing research, development, and digital transformation across the nation, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of building a robust, connected, and digitally empowered workforce and business environment.
